Remote Camping under the pines in Maine's Kennebec Valley

In the great outdoors

Once you arrive in the region, you won’t want to leave. So make sure to expand your camping experience beyond a cabin, camper, or RV. Try one of our more far-flung camping options away from town in the warm weather. Reserve a site nestled in the forest under tall pine trees with easy access to hiking trails and crystal-clear lakes. All of it is breathtaking. We’ve set the bar high for recreational camping with great spots in the Winthrop Lakes Area, The Forks, and Jackman.

Family Fun

Camping doesn’t have to be way out in the wilderness to be exciting. Many of our most popular campgrounds are within easy reach of all the needs and attractions found in the cities and towns along the Kennebec River.

For centrally located family camping that still delivers on all the Maine camping experiences, check out those around Skowhegan, Canaan, or Madison. The kids, and the adults, will enjoy perks like mini-golf, zip lines, crafts, and outdoor movie nights.

Go remote

Scenic campsites in remote settings await those who seek to venture off the beaten path. Holeb Public Lands, including Attean Lake, Holeb Pond, and the Moose River, is a classic north woods outdoor recreation destination. Campsites are almost exclusively hike or paddle-in, first-come, first-serve; most have a rustic picnic table, access to a pit toilet, and a fire ring.

The area surrounding Flagstaff Lake offers many opportunities for fishing, paddling, and hiking, including a section of the Appalachian Trail, with tent, lean-to, and group sites that can be secured on the Maine State Parks’ website.
